and I asked myself, “How do I start this blog?”. Maybe not very original but to the point.
I’ve been studying what I’ve come to call Practical Spirituality, to a greater and lesser extent, for the past three decades or so. And I always thought one day that I would share what I’m learning with people.
Well, after a few false starts, and being told quite pointedly to get on with it, the day has finally come. So let me explain.
No, let me sum up.
Practical Spirituality is the practice of including our soul in our daily habits to create the life outcomes we desire. People talk about having a soul, I’m talking about using your soul. We do this by using the abilities of the soul along with the abilities of the body and mind.
So what are the “abilities of the soul”? The ones I’ll be talking about include:
- Gratitude
- Mindfulness
- Meditation
- Feelings and Vibration
- Intuition
- Letting Go
- Unconditional Love
There are others but these will provide a good foundation to build on.
My computer science background would have me exploring the abilities of the soul in a very methodical well-defined way; conducting research, making outlines, categories and subcategories until I had everything organized perfectly so I can present them to the world.
The soul doesn’t work that way.
The dao that can be spoken is not the eternal dao. Some of the concepts we’ll be discussing are hard to fit into words. Like the abilities of the mind, those of the soul are pure energy. But they’re more, “diffuse”, harder to get hold of.
If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t get into the “touchy, feely stuff”, you’re going to be disappointed. The soul is all about “touchy, feely”.
At the end of the day it’s not about being what we want to be, doing what we want to do, or having what we want to have. It’s about the feelings that being, doing, and having bring us.
Actions are the language of the body, thoughts are the language of the mind, and feelings are the language of the soul. The circle is complete.
What follows is my truth. It’s the sum of the wisdom that I have gathered to date and a record of what I will gather going forward. But what’s true for me is not necessarily true for you.
If what I say doesn’t resonate with you, find something that does. Find what feels true. Not what you think is true, what feels true. Find it and live it. But don’t be afraid to change if new information comes along that brings a different perspective.
500 years ago everybody knew the earth was flat. . .
. . .imagine what you’ll know tomorrow.
